2010 adventure and wildlife photography

Route of our journeyWe just got back from ten days of action-packed fun, and I'm going to be writing about the highlights for the next week or two.  I was originally going to post all of my thoughts on the trip in chronological order, but I suspect you all are smart enough to put up with a bit of asynchrony and would prefer to see some fun photos right away rather than waiting a few days until my head is clear enough to write up the early parts of the trip.  Just in case you're confused, our trip involved driving to North Carolina, taking the train to New Orleans, the bus to Mobile, a cruise ship to the Yucatan (where I'll begin with my posts tomorrow), and then ship, bus, train, and car back home.

I went a little camera crazy and literally took around a thousand photos over the week and a half trip, discovering in the process Northern Mockingbirdthat the Canon Powershot SX20 IS's zoom is almost good enough for wildlife photography.  Unless the birds were being exceptionally tame, I ended up with photos that look pretty good at small sizes but which quickly turn grainy as I blow them up.  I'm including the shots anyway since the birds I was photographing are so beautiful, but I'm well aware that our Canon isn't really good enough for bird shots.  I hope you enjoy the photos anyway!

Our homemade chicken waterer stood the test --- we came home to happy, hydrated chickens.
