About the Author

Anna Hess holding a grape vineAnna Hess is the author of Sugar Hill: A Microcosm of Central Appalachian Ecology.  She spent her early childhood immersed in nature on her family's small farm in Washington County, Virginia, then continued her science education at Swarthmore College.  After returning to the mountains, she spent several years inventorying the plants and animals on private properties in West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

Currently, Anna homesteads on 58 acres of swamp and wetland in Scott County, Virginia.  She blogs about her homesteading adventures and is also the co-author of Microbusiness Independence: A No Nonsense Approach to Inventing Your Way out of the Rat Race.
